Monty's Longest Day - 2013

For the fourth year in a row, Monty Norman is playing his Longest Day Challenge in aid of the Macmillan Support charity. Like last year, Monty will be joined by Chris Moore (the "Senior Moments" team!!) to complete the challenge on 24th June 2013. They will play one round at Newbury & Crookham, followed by a further three rounds at Newbury Racecourse - all in the space of one single day.
Thank-you for your support in previous years and Monty & Chris would be very grateful for your support again this year. You can donate on-line by visiting http://www.justgiving.com/monty-norman2013

This year Monty and Chris are dedicating their efforts to Mike Willson who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Seniors Stableford

A slightly smaller field for the seniors this week as quite a few were "playing away" at a local charity golf day. Twenty-seven players tee'd it up in a singles Stableford competition and were rewarded with some nice warm and benign conditions.
This week's winner was Brian Faithfull with an excellent score of 40pts. The next three players all returned 37pts. Les Eden won the count-back battle to claim the runners-up spot followed by Roy Whiting and Frank Morley.

May Weekday Stableford

Only four players in this month's Weekday Stableford. I'm actually surprised there were that many given the weather conditions on Friday. Even the pro's at Wentworth gave it up as a bad job!!!
Anyway, the winner was Steve Simm scoring 34pts followed by John Day on 29pts. Full details - click here.

Seniors Texas Scramble

Today's seniors event was a Texas Scramble with ten teams of 3 players taking part. Chilly conditions again with a bit of a north-westerly wind to keep the players honest.
The winning team with an excellent score of 56.8 (gross 68) were Ken Croucher, Jim Green & Steve Thompson. Runners-up on 58.6 (gross 69) were Brian Faithfull, Ofer Ben-David & Sam Whiting followed by Les Eden, Liz Evans & Harry Jackson (59.4). Full result - click here.

It was John Day's birthday today and he kindly donated some sleeves of balls to randomly drawn players. The lucky recipients were: Colin Cox, Barry Heath, Richard Cross and Bob Evans.
Happy Birthday John!!

Bader Cup

Ten pairings took part today in the Bader Cup which is a mixed greensomes Stableford competition. This is the first stage in a national competition with today's winners going forward to play in a regional final and the lucky winners thereafter to the national finals in Portugal. Conditions were very tricky today with a strong westerly wind gusting, but at least all the competitors remained dry.
Today's winners were Jon Miller & Allison Holmes with an excellent score of 39pts. Runners-up, just one point further back, were John Day & Christine Cooper closely followed by Roy & Sam Whiting in third spot. Jon & Allison qualify to play in the regional finals at Newbury & Crookham in August. Full result - click here.

The "longest throw with a putter" competition was easily won by Chris Moore with a phenomenal effort!!

The winner with an excellent 41pts was Tom Wallin - his second success in this competition. Two points behind was runner-up Richard Hook followed by Ken Croucher (38pts) and Paul Tebbutt (37pts).

May Medal

Twenty-four entrants (22 men and 2 ladies) played in the May medal today in two divisions including the ladies. Chilly at first with a couple of light showers, but the very blustery wind made scoring quite difficult with only two players at par or better.

Division 1
The best nett score of the day and winning the top division medal was Dave Warwick on 70. Runner-up (with the lowest gross of 77) was Andy Steadman who finished just ahead of Dean Butler on count-back after both had nett 72. Sam Whiting was the top lady in fourth spot on 73.
Full result - click here.

Division 2
Paul Tebbutt was the winner here with a nett 71 and the lowest gross in division 2. Once again count-back was required to separate second and third place with John Baron  just edging out Roy Whiting.
Full result - click here.

Two's
Just one 2 recorded today from Brian Matthews. Hope he entered the two's pool otherwise we'll have another roll-over next month!!

Owen Millennium Trophy
This is the third of eight counting medals (gross scores) in the Owen Millennium Trophy. Josh Wallin (239) is still in top spot closely followed by John Day, Dave Warwick and Mark Richardson.

Summer Medal Aggregate
In the nett medal aggregate competition the leaders are very tightly packed with four strokes separating the top four places. Roger Carter leads the way followed by Paul Tebbutt, Dave Warwick and Mark Richardson. Latest listings - click here.

Both teams were treated to an excellent two-course dinner following the matches. Seniors May Medal

A beautiful sunny day, a gentle breeze blowing, the course in excellent condition ... perfect conditions for the seniors to go low. But surprisingly no?! Only two players from the field of thirty-five players (30 men and five ladies) managed to play below par.
Roy Whiting won the men's medal with an excellent 68 followed by runner-up Mike Pritchard one shot further back. Third place was decided on count-back with Tom Wallin just edging out Jim Green and Malcolm Passey after all 3 carded 73. Chris Moore's 82 was the lowest gross of the day. Full result - click here.
Sam Whiting made it a family double by winning the ladies medal with 73 followed by Jan Hinks on 74 and Linda Vale on 76. Full result - click here.

Just two 2's recorded today from Brian Grace and Monty Norman. But, as Brian didn't enter the two's pool, Monty scooped the jackpot!!
